MAIN ACTIVITY

The main activity of the Strata Mechanics Research Institute comprise research in domain of the rock physics, physics and chemistry of the liquid and gas flow, geomechanics, geotechnics, mining technologies and selected aspects of environment engineering, in particular:

  • mechanical properties of rocks

  • stereological analysis of rock structures,

  • unsteady flow in networks,

  • flow in porous media,

  • metrology of fluid and solid media,

  • environment protection, environmental engineering and mine engineering,

  • stress and strain state in strata.

According to current needs of the economy of the Polish Republic and prospects related to accession to the European Union, the Strata Mechanics Research Institute directed its activity towards application of informatics and high technologies within the frames of the program of statutory activity, theme of which is:

Phenomena in fluids and rock media including their interactions

The main directions of the program comprise:

  • Development of forecasting of hazards to the sub and surface infrastructure related to the rock media, with application of computer simulation.

  • Feasibility studies concerning construction of underground fuel and waste (including toxic waste) storage facilities.

  • New methods and devices for measurement of parameters related to the flow of gases

  • Development of ventilation process forecasting supported by monitoring and numerical simulation.

We maintain and will to extend cooperation in above mentioned domains with Polish and International partners.
